Carey Mulligan Is Not ‘The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo’

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

Filed under:

Carey MulliganThe increasingly busy Carey Mulligan may have recently signed on to star in Wentworth Miller’s upcoming drama ‘Stoker,’ but the coveted role of Lisbeth Salander in the rapidly approaching U.S. film adaptation of ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ will go to somebody else.

“I can officially quash that rumor once and for all,” Mulligan told Entertainment Weekly on Wednesday. “It’s not going to be me. But I’m excited to see it. I love the books and I think it will be great.”

If it’s not going to be Shia LaBoeuf’s gal pal, then who will get to play Salander? The clock’s a-ticking if the David Fincher-directed flick is going to be in the can in time for its slated Dec. 21, 2011 release date. So who is Sony considering?

Joss WhedonDuring today’s Visionaries panel at San Diego Comic-Con Joss Whedon confirmed that he will be directing the highly anticipated ‘Avengers movie.

Unfortunately Whedon didn’t reveal any additional information about the film, due out in 2012. It’s assumed that during the Marvel panel on Saturday Whedon and Marvel will announce the cast of The Avengers — hopefully with a Bruce Banner cast (maybe Adrien Brody? Maybe not.) and … an Ant-Man, perhaps? During today’s Masters of the Web panel, Edgar Wright (the assumed director) shot down all Ant-Man questions, saying no one is cast and that he hasn’t really worked on the script at all this year.

Tron: LegacyAs Comic-Con gets underway in San Diego, today Disney released the second theatrical trailer for the highly anticipated ‘Tron: Legacy,’ which features Jeff Bridges looking exactly like he did in the original 1982 classic.

The new trailer repeats a few visuals and plot points from the first trailer, confirming what we already know: ‘Tron: Legacy’ focuses on Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund), the 27-year old son of programmer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), who mysteriously disappeared more than two decades ago. Flynn’s old friend and business partner, Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner), an ENCOM senior executive/consultant, contacts Sam about a message he’s received via pager, supposedly from Sam’s father. Sam enters Flynn’s old arcade and, like his father 28 years earlier, he’s digitized and enters Tron’s virtual world of perpetual combat games.
